Sun’s Out Tongue’s Out Special Recap!

Last week when our kennels started to fill up, we rounded out the end of the week with a last minute dog adoption special! What better time for our dog to go home than in June so they have the rest of the summer months to enjoy the sunshine, go on lake trips, and relax indoors with their new families after.

Last Thursday through Sunday all dog adoption fees including puppies were HALF OFF. Here are just a few of the dogs who found their new families this weekend, including McGee, the face of our special!!

Thank you so much to everyone who adopted this week not just dogs but cats and kittens to. And thank you to our banner sponsors this month Piedmont Floor Show for supporting our initiative and making these adoptions possible!

It’s a miracle… Merry & Pippin are staying together!!

We shared Merry and Pippin a few weeks ago and it felt like a shot in the dark. After living with each other for 8 long years, their owner tried so hard to rehome them so they could remain together, but they had no success. It’s not lost on us that seniors are not easy to find homes for. So hoping two would go home together, even as sweet and well behaved at Merry and Pippin was a long shot.

Little did we know that there was someone who was waiting for exactly this situation to roll around. A family member of one of our staff has a heart for seniors. Not only had her heart called her to adopt a senior dog months earlier, but given the space and time she had, she hoped to adopt two. So when she saw our post, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

Even though she was hours away, she contacted us immediately and we placed them on hold for her and coordinated plans for her to adopt them. They are so happy to be staying together, and Susan is so happy with her two new best friends. If you’ve been considering rescuing a bonded pair this is your sign to take that leap!!

Almost two years later and Puppy has been adopted!!

Puppy is out of here and she took a friend with her!! Puppy was found outside with three of her siblings in 2024. She was 3 months old then. Her entire litter was shy and for the first three months of their lives had likely never been around humans. Many cats that come into our care undersocialized adapt quickly and it’s like they were never afraid of humans to begin with. But some cats just struggle in the shelter environment more than others and don’t come around as easily, and Puppy was one of these cats.

Puppy spent nearly 2 years in the shelter and made lots of progress. She was never aggressive, but adopters would still overlook her because of her shyness. Finally last week, a woman came in looking for two cats and she saw Puppy’s potential. She picked Puppy and a newer intake, Jonathan, who was also shy. Thank you so much to the adopter for picking these two and giving them a home they deserve. Also thank you Piedmont Floor Show for being this months banner sponsor!
